Devil’s Gate History Club of Historic Georgetown Inc. presents “History of the Easter Seals Camp at Rocky Mountain Village” by Tom Picton, on May 8, at 7 p.m. in the Genesee Room at the Easter Seals Camp on Alvarado Road. (Please note the change from the regular location.)  This event is free and open to the public.

May 9

Canine on the Creek 5K is on May 9 at 10:30 a.m. Grab Fido and your running (or walking) shoes and head to Dumont to raise funds, awareness for Charlie’s Place - the Clear Creek and Gilpin County Animal Shelter. This fun, fast and scenic course travels along Clear Creek. Participants are allowed and encouraged to run with one pup. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations, non-aggressive and leashed at all times. Cost is $25 for adults and $18 for youth. Clear Creek County Open Space is holding a grand opening for its Philadelphia Mill site on May 12 at 11:30 a.m.. This accessible fishing access park is located on North Spring Gulch Road (just west of the Zipline). Come help us celebrate, dessert and beverages served. This project was funded by Clear Creek County Open Space and Colorado Parks and Wildlife Fishing is Fun Program.

Diabetes Prevention Program begins May 12. Clear Creek Public Health Nursing Services is now taking application for a 16-week program diabetes prevention program beginning Tuesday, May 12 at 5:30 p.m. in Idaho Springs. The American Diabetes Association reports that half of all Americans age 65 and older have pre-diabetes and are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.  The program is known for successfully reducing weight of participants and implementing lifestyle changes for improved health.  Class size is limited so call Carolyn Kennedy and ask about free blood sugar screening and learn if you are eligible at 303-670-7547.

This event is presented by Summit Combined Housing Authority in Clear Creek County.
