For three years, Megan Smith, Elise Pate and Molly Quaranto have tried to qualify for the 3A state track and field championships in the 4x100 relay, and three times they’ve been on the outside looking in.
Then came May 10 at the 3A Frontier League championships at Clear Creek High School. Along with junior Denika Spadafora, the Lady Golddiggers placed third in 53.5 seconds. Where they placed wasn’t nearly as important as their time. Needing a time of 53.6 or better to get into the qualifying top 18 for state, Clear Creek started envisioning hopes of going to state.
