Meritage Development drops option to buy lake property

By Adrienne Anderson

After four years of public hearings, planning and water rights issues, Meritage Development Corp. has dropped its option to buy the 18 acres of Berry Trust land at the northwest end of Georgetown Lake.

The announcement essentially ends plans for the Georgetown Marketplace, initially proposed to include a 100-room hotel, seven buildings and a large anchor store. Planners had hoped the development could attract more than 6,000 visitors a day.
