The Oldsmobile Division of General Motors once had an ad that proclaimed the new Oldsmobiles were “not your father’s Oldsmobile.”

The same is true of today’s Democratic Party. The Democratic Party of JFK’s time represented blue-collar workers, the downtrodden, a proud America, a strong national defense and still believed politics ended at the “water’s edge.”
