Cyclists were welcomed to Georgetown with cheers, cowbells and musicians who invoked the power of Georgetown's unofficial patron saint John Denver after the six-day, 412-mile Ride the Rockies tour came to an end on June 17.
For cyclists, the event was everything they hoped for, a challenging and great opportunity to traverse Colorado’s scenic mountains.
For Georgetown business owners, the event equaled a great opportunity for the town’s exposure to the outside world.
"I am so happy to be a part of bringing this to Georgetown for the very first time and then to see it come to fruition," said Bob Gibbs, local volunteer liaison between the town and the tour.
For Gibbs, who was standing at the finish line, Ride the Rockies was the culmination of five months of hard work. "... It is everything I expected it to be," he said.
