Idaho Springs business sells hydroponic supplies

By Ian Neligh

With their love of plants, sustainable living and all things gardening, Jason and Jessyca Wyant recently started 4 Elements Hydroponics Supplies in Idaho Springs.
The two believe their combined experience can help area residents cultivate indoor and outdoor gardens, ultimately helping them to live healthier lives. The store is at 2731 Colorado Blvd.

“(Health is) a huge issue in America, especially with obesity, and disease and diabetes is through the roof. … It’s awful,” Jason said. “So for us to have a chance to help people in the community to do natural gardening themselves is awesome.”
The couple grew up in Evergreen and in Clear Creek and so are happy to be starting a business in the area. Jason, who owns property in Empire, has lived in Georgetown, Silver Plume and Empire.
“There are a lot of factors that brought us up here. First and foremost, I wanted to get back up west, and I loved Clear Creek,” Jason said.
4 Elements Hydroponics provides a host of supplies to keep a garden green, and offers the supplies and know-how to build and maintain an indoor hydroponics garden.
Jason said indoor hydroponics gardens are a logical choice for those living with the mountains’ short growing season, cold temperatures and poor soil.
A typical hydroponics garden can cost anywhere from $300 to several thousand dollars, Jason said.
He also hopes to bring to the store an aquaponics garden, which uses circulated water and live fish to fertilize the plants.
“We supply a bit of everything for indoor/outdoor gardening, greenhouse supplies, warehouse gardening. We have it all,” Jason said.
The Wyants opened a similar store in Conifer with some friends several years ago and decided it was time to try it themselves. In addition, Jessyca worked for 10 years at Vitamin Cottage, so she was confident she could handle the technical aspects of running a business.
“I think for us to be able to do it on our own, it was a lot of my experience in the retail industry …,” Jessyca said. “We know the products; we’re good with plants; I know the retail and business aspect of it really well.”
Jessyca said she, Jason and their children are picky about what they eat, and the opportunity to share their passion for healthy food and vegetables is exciting.
4 Elements Hydroponics is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays. For more information, call 303-567-9300.
