Given the fact that this county relies upon the Henderson Mine for 70 percent of its tax revenue; given another fact as to the mine’s demise within 10 years or less, as well as the latest 35 percent reduction in revenue from the mine; and given the latest revelation by the county manager that an increase in property taxes is a real prospect, I, as a taxpayer, became curious as to relative current tax rates and expenditures in Gilpin and the other 62 counties in Colorado relative to Clear Creek.
