The Idaho Springs annual Tree Lighting celebration will be on Nov. 19 at 5:15 p.m. at Citizens Park. The Cow Boy Band will play Christmas carols, the Clear Creek High School Madrigal Ensemble will carol down Miner Street, and Santa will be on hand afterward at the Elks Lodge.

Don’t trash it, SMASH it! Join Scraps-to-Soil at the Idaho Springs baseball fields for the third annual Pumpkin SMASH Nov. 5 from noon to 5 p.m. Bring your old jack-o’-lanterns and smash them.  Proceeds benefit Scraps-to-Soil, and the organic waste benefits the community gardens.  Activities include contests, games, a bouncy castle and more.

    The 6th Annual Empire Fall Festival and Scarecrow Festival will announce its winners on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. at the town hall. Entering a scarecrow is free. Other contests include a pie contest, chili contest and
    pumpkin carving contest. Entries
    should be brought to town hall by 5 p.m.

    Sept. 15
    The Adult Cooking Class will be held in Georgetown on Sept. 15 for six weeks. The classes will be on Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Community School. The program is hosted through the public health department. No child care will be provided and applicants must pre-register by Sept. 12. Call 303-679-2386 for information and to apply.
