Idaho Springs police have seen a 16 percent increase in calls this year over 2015, Police Chief Chris Malanka said during a state-of-the-department report to the city council on May 9.
Malanka said the department's call load is up, and officer training opportunities and community policing involvement have also increased.
Calls for service
In April, officers answered 670 calls, a 10 percent increase over the same month in 2015. Year to date the department has responded to 2,775 calls, compared with 2,392 calls in 2015.
