  • Quaranto hopes first state run...

LAKEWOOD — Molly Quaranto didn’t have big dreams of winning at this year’s 3A state track and field championships. The Clear Creek junior was just happy that she got there. That said, Quaranto hopes that her first trip to state won’t be her last. And, who knows, maybe next year she can bring a few teammates, too.

  • Heffner wasn’t best, but she’s...

BROOMFIELD — Teri Heffner wasn’t the first, second or even third runner across the finish line. She wasn’t even the 10th or 11th. But once she finished the 1,600-meter race in 6 minutes, 58.89 seconds on May 13 at Holy Family High School Heffner was something else — a league champion.

  • Back-to-back losses put an end...

Kate Bollen scored a hat trick — all in the second half — as Denver School of Science and Technology toppled host Clear Creek, 3-2, on May 3.
The loss, coupled with an 8-3 loss to Middle Park one day earlier, ended the Lady Golddiggers’ bid for a first-ever postseason berth.
Clear Creek (6-8, 5-5 3A Frontier League) received goals from Hannah Wescott and Ally Huff against DSST. For Huff, it was her 16th goal of the season.

  • Diggers’ playoffs hopes dashed

Tyler Franek went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs and Middle Park broke a 4-all tie with a run in the seventh inning to top Clear Creek, 5-4, on May 3 in the regular-season finale.

  • Diggers' one last chance

Alberto Delgado doesn’t mean to be disrespectful, but the Clear Creek High School junior uses track and field as a means to prepare for the fall football season. That’s just the way he rolls.

  • Delgado, relay team lead way for...

    A staff report
STRASBURG — Alberto Delgado placed second in the boys jump and Clear Creek’s girls placed third in a pair of relays at the Strasburg Invitational on April 30.
Delgado jumped 18 feet, 11.75 inches to take second in the long jump. Teammate Didier Bonnette-Forenz was seventh.
The Lady Golddiggers took third in the 4x100 meter relay in a time of 55.62 seconds. They also were third in the 4x200 relay in 1 minute, 57.06 seconds.

  • Clear Creek on verge of breaking...

Clear Creek didn’t need much time to leave a lasting impression. Early in the game and late the Lady Golddiggers made their presence felt during their April 29 girls soccer game against The Pinnacle, and Ally Huff was a major reason for that.

  • Quaranto places sixth in 100,200...

    By Courant staff

KEENESBURG — Molly Quaranto scored a pair of sixth-place finishes for Clear Creek at the Weld Central Rebel Round-Up on April 15.
Quaranto tied for sixth in the 100 meters in a time of 13.69 seconds. She also was sixth in the 200 in 28.76 seconds.
Kendra Henderson placed fifth in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 5 inches. Clear Creek’s girls 4x100 relay team also placed fourth in 56.53 seconds.

  • Huff lifts Diggers past Lake...

LEADVILLE — Ally Huff scored a pair of first-half goals as Clear Creek scored a 2-0 win over host Lake County on April 12.
The goals gave Huff a team-high nine on the season.
The win was the Lady Golddiggers’ fourth this season and third shutout victory. Clear Creek also shut out Nederland in the season opener and Jefferson.
The victory snapped a two-game slide in which Clear Creek had been outscored 11-3.

  • Golddiggers get burned by Huskies

BAILEY — The Platte Canyon Huskies baseball team is sure glad they have Chris Burns back in the lineup.
Burns had missed the first 10 games of the season with a broken bone in his hand, but was back batting leadoff for the Huskies in their April 16 matchup with Clear Creek.
And the first baseman served as the catalyst for Platte Canyon, going 4-for-4 with four doubles and four runs scored to go with two RBIs in the Huskies’ 15-5 rout of the Golddiggers.
