  • Hot-hitting Golddiggers...

    By Courant staff
James Winter went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and four RBIs as Clear Creek opened a doubleheader with Denver School of Science and Technology with an 11-1 rout on April 9.
The Golddiggers came back in the nightcap with an 11-run fourth inning to sweep the doubleheader, winning 17-12.
The victories extended Clear Creek’s winning streak to six games and improved the Golddiggers to 8-2 on the season.

  • Diggers lose possession game to...

WESTMINSTER — It’s hard to win a game when you don’t have possession of the ball. It’s even harder when the opposition does, especially on your side of the field, for most of the game.
That’s the hard lesson that Clear Creek’s girls soccer team found out April 8 at The Academy.

  • A game on the rise

Sam Soell, like his teammates, braved a chilly Friday night at Marshdale Elementary School for the hour-and-half lacrosse practice for the sixth- and seventh-grade team. The Mountain Lacrosse league season-opener was right around the corner and Soell and his teammates needed to be ready.

  • Winter, bats spring Clear Creek...

James Winter’s first pitching outing of the season probably isn’t a memory he’d like to remember. The Clear Creek senior hurler got hammered for 10 runs — four earned — and walked eight in just two-thirds of an inning against Colorado Academy. His second outing was a far different story.

  • Summit snatches game from Clear...

    A staff report
Rachelle Talbot scored a second-half goal, but it wouldn’t be enough as Clear Creek dropped a 2-1 decision to Summit on March 16 at Clear Creek High School.
The loss was the Lady Golddiggers’ second straight since a season-opening 1-0 win at Nederland. Clear Creek lost its home opener two days earlier, 8-0, to 4A Conifer.
Hannah Wescott assisted on Talbot’s first goal of the season.
Summit scored in the game’s first 40 minutes thanks to the first of two Jessica Malknecht goals.

  • Diggers unleash offensive...

The Clear Creek baseball team is getting back in the swing of things now that the season has officially started. And, so far, they are off to a good start with another win, 12-4, over the Bruce Randolph Grizzlies on March 17 at Clear Creek High School.
The Grizzlies and the Golddiggers were tied 3-3 at the end of the second inning and it seemed as though the Grizzlies might be a more formidable opponent than the Diggers had anticipated.

  • Diggers hope to learn from...

Ben Potter, for someone who had just watched his team — the Clear Creek girls soccer squad — get picked apart for six first-half goals by visiting Conifer en route to an 8-0 loss in the Lady Golddiggers’ home opener on March 14, was fairly upbeat.

  • Evergreen 8th-grader McCarty...

DENVER — There’s no flashy ring jacket. Just a red mouthpiece, a little shadow boxing on the side and a picture of concentration. That’s Garrett McCarty.
A 13-year-old Evergreen Middle School seventh-grader, McCarty hasn’t always emphasized those characteristics. He boxed for two years, in the fourth and fifth grade, before he just stopped for a variety of reasons. He, as Clear Creek boxing coach Beau Campbell said, forgot just how close the boxing community truly is.
