35th Annual Interfaith AIDS Candlelight Memorial

05/20/2018 - 7:30am - 8:30am

On Sunday, May 20, Boulder County AIDS Project (BCAP) and the Interfaith AIDS Coalition (IAC) of Boulder County will host the 35th annual International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, one of the oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV and AIDS awareness in the world. This Memorial honors those lost, and raises consciousness about the continuing challenges faced by those living with or at risk for acquiring HIV. The theme of this year’s memorial is “reflecting on our past, preparing for our future.”

Activists, family members and supporters are invited to gather together at the BCAP office before participating in a silent walk through downtown Boulder. The program continues with inspirational music, a reading of the names of local people whose lives’ were lost to AIDS, and a brief reflection period.

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial, coordinated by the Global Network of people living with HIV, is one of the world’s oldest and largest grassroots mobilization campaigns for HIV awareness. Started in 1983, the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial takes place every third Sunday in May and is led by a coalition of some 1,200 community organizations in 115 countries.

The reception will take place at BCAP from 6:45 P.M. – 7:25 P.M.

The Boulder Memorial Walk will begin at 7:30 P.M.
