Colorado State Patrol is investigating two separate fatal accidents — one in Dumont and the other near Idaho Springs — that occurred on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30, respectively.

The Sept. 29 incident was a fatal hit-and-run in Dumont, where a vehicle allegedly struck a pedestrian near the 1000 block of County Road 308.

The male victim has been identified as Dakota Parsons, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, State Trooper Tim Schaefer confirmed.

CSP received the call at 9:21 a.m. that morning, but the agency is still investigating when exactly the incident occurred.

Investigators believe that the man was walking along the road when he was struck by a westbound vehicle. The vehicle is believed to be a 2010 Ford pickup truck.

No arrest has yet been made in the case, and Schaefer confirmed it is still under investigation.

State Patrol is also investigating a single-vehicle fatal accident on Virginia Canyon Road that was reported at 7:45 a.m. on Sept. 30.

According to Schaefer, Jeffrey Lochrie, a 62-year-old Denver man, was driving a Toyota SUV northbound in the 1900 block of Virginia Canyon Road. It appears the driver failed to negotiate a right-hand curve in the road and went down an embankment.

The driver, whose name hasn’t been released, was declared dead at the scene.

CSP doesn’t believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
