Brock Burke made his professional debut for the Gulf Coast Rays on July 18 against the Baltimore Orioles’ rookie-level team at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Fla.

The 6-foot-2 left-hander started and pitched just the first inning as the team slowly works him into the rotation after a heavy pitch count during the high school season.

The 17-year-old Evergreen High graduate tossed a one-two-three inning, striking out the Orioles’ Henry Urrutia to end the frame.

Burke was drafted 96th overall in the third round of the 2014 first-year player draft.

The Orioles rallied for two runs in the seventh and an insurance run in the eighth for a 4-1 victory.

The Rays are 16-11, one game behind the Red Sox in the Gulf Coast League South Division as of July 21.
