County still needs to cut its budget, officials say

By Ian Neligh

Henderson Mine and Mill will stay open until 2026, according to mine officials, but the later closure date doesn’t solve the county's budget woes.

Mine officials cited increased production and a stronger market for molybdenum that inspired them to resume development of an area in the mine called 7210 A.

A downtrend in the market originally caused Henderson’s owner, Climax Molybdenum, a Freeport-McMoRan company, to suspend new development in 2016 and looked at closing the mine in 2020.
