Denver area resident has been missing since Jan. 22

Authorities are still looking for a 42-year-old skier who went missing Jan. 22 near Urad Reservoir west of Empire.

Denver area resident Jeremy Rich apparently did not return from a trip into the backcountry to ski. The Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office found his truck recently near Urad, which is just south of Butler Gulch.

Undersheriff Bruce Snelling said search-and-rescue efforts have so far found no sign of Rich.

“He is still missing,” Snelling said. “And over that span (of Rich’s disappearance), we’ve had another 2 feet of windy, blowing snow up there.”

Authorities received a call about Rich’s disappearance Jan. 28 and conducted several searches, including one on Feb. 2.

“We’re trying to develop a plan now and figure out what would be the most logical path in and out of there,” Snelling said. “We’re considering a flyover with a helicopter to see if there’s avalanches or see if anything can turn up.”

Todd Musselman of Edgewater disappeared while hiking at St. Mary’s Glacier on Jan. 15. Rescuers found his body Jan. 16 near avalanche debris. Poor weather and avalanche danger hampered rescue operations, and four snowslides were reported in the area during the time Musselman had disappeared.
