    Sept. 11
    American Legion Post 98 is hosting a 9/11 memorial event at Courtney Riley Cooper Park in Idaho Springs from 3 to 6 p.m. The event is a fund-raiser and will have speakers, food and music.

    Patriot Day Pot Luck Supper and flag fund-raiser at 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Theobald Park next to town hall in Empire.

    Come join in the fun for a celebration of the Friends of Charlie’s Place animal shelter’s new exercise park and outdoor kennels. Charlie’s Corner is a fun place for a shelter dog to run and play with a volunteer. Celebrate the grand opening from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Clear Creek/Gilpin Animal Shelter at 500 W. Dumont Road in Dumont.

    Ancient World Series Part III- Professor Inga Calvin from the University of Colorado presents Mayan civilizations and writings and why the Mayan writings say that the world will not end in 2012. Cookies and refreshments provided. The presentation begins at 5:30pm upstairs in the Idaho Springs Library.

    Summer Reading Swim Party at the Clear Creek Recreation Center in Idaho Springs. The party begins at 11 a.m. raffle and lunch at 12 p.m. and ends at 2 p.m. Help us celebrate a fantastic summer of traveling around the world.

    Sleepover in the Stacks starts at 6 p.m. Friday and runs until 8 a.m. Saturday at the Idaho Springs Library. Children can come for a night of summer fun away from home. Sign up and get details at the library.
