    For one longtime local resident, volunteering is music to her ears.

    Retired music teacher and Idaho Springs resident Nancy Johnson was recently recognized by the county with an honorable mention for lifetime achievement for her many years of volunteer service.

  • Peck House given Circle of Safety Award

    The Peck House in Empire has been honored with the Circle of Safety Award by Pinnacol Assurance Co. for an outstanding record of safety.
    Pinnacol is the main workers compensation insurance provider in Colorado. Out of 166,000 companies, 80 qualified, and 56 were given the award.

    Brycen Darrell Henson was born Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center.

    He is the son of Heather Skeen and Tristen Henson of Empire.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces at birth.
    His grandparents are Merri and Gleede (Buster) Skeen of Dumont and
    Lori Henson of Idaho Springs.
