Resolving to quit tobacco
Learn about how to quit smoking at a free presentation from 11 a.m. to noon and again from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14. The event will provide information and support for those resolving to quit smoking in 2010. Quitting tips and resources plus protection from second-hand smoke will be discussed. Garden Club meeting

The nonprofit Sustainable Technology Institute in Idaho Springs will be hosting a CPR, AED and first-aid certification class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan.15 in the old middle school. Empress Gold Mining and Milling will hold a public meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Idaho Springs Elks Club to discuss the reopening of the Stanley Mines.

Workshop on caregiver well-being
The responsibility of caring for elderly and disabled family members can be so demanding that caregivers often forget to take time for themselves. The Mountain Caregivers Resource Group is hosting a free workshop called Caring for the Caregiver from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at the Seniors’ Resource Center, 5120 Highway 73 in Evergreen. DAR Good Citizen’s Award ceremony
Mountain-Rendezvous Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting its DAR Good Citizen’s Award ceremony at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Church of the Hills in Evergreen. This award is given to students from Clear Creek, Conifer, Evergreen and Platte Canyon high schools for their personal achievements as well as on their written essay from a chosen topic. Clear Creek Rock House Teen Center offers Monday night Bible study at 6 p.m.; on Tuesdays, learn Spanish at 12:15 p.m.; Wednesday at 4 p.m. is a 12-step program; and Wednesday night has open mic at 6 p.m. On Thursdays at 4 p.m. learn Spanish; Friday night movies are at 6 p.m. The Rock House is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Friends of Beaver Brook Watershed, a nonprofit organization formed to ensure a quality environment and outdoor experience, seeks volunteer weekend rangers to hike and patrol the park during the hiking season.
