Environmental workshops: The nonprofit Sustainable Technology Institute in Idaho Springs will be hosting two events on Jan. 30. How to make homemade environmentally safe laundry detergent will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. Cost for the seminar is $15. A seminr on making a homemade coffee log, which burns hotter, more cleanly and with less carbon dioxide emissions that other logs, will be from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30. Cost is $25. Feb. 6

DAR Good Citizen’s Award ceremony: Mountain-Rendezvous Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting its DAR Good Citizen’s Award ceremony at 10 a.m. Feb. 6 at Church of the Hills in Evergreen. This award is given to students from Clear Creek, Conifer, Evergreen and Platte Canyon high schools for their personal achievements as well as on their written essay from a chosen topic.  DreamS workshop: Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Heath Care is offering a workshop called Introduction to Dream Work from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The free workshop will be presented by Evergreen psychologist John Todd and will focus on dreams as they relate to grief and healing. Participants will gain an understanding of how dreams affect their everyday lives and learn simple techniques for interpreting their dreams. Mt. Evans is located at 3081 Bergen Peak Dr., Evergreen. Children’s Story Time at John Tomay Memorial Library in Georgetown offers preschool play and stories with a language program that encourages pre-reading skills and social bonds at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays and children story and craft hour from 2 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Clear Creek Rock House Teen Center offers Monday night Bible study at 6 p.m.; on Tuesdays, learn Spanish at 12:15 p.m.; Wednesday at 4 p.m. is a 12-step program; and Wednesday night has open mic at 6 p.m. On Thursdays at 4 p.m. learn Spanish; Friday night movies are at 6 p.m. The Rock House is open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Free health assessments are offered to those 18 and older by Colorado Heart Healthy Solutions and Clear Creek Public Health. Cholesterol screenings, diabetes check, cardiac assessment, education, navigation, referrals and resources are offered from 9 a.m. to noon every Friday by appointment at the Community Resource Center in Idaho Springs. Friends of Beaver Brook Watershed, a nonprofit organization formed to ensure a quality environment and outdoor experience, seeks volunteer weekend rangers to hike and patrol the park during the hiking season.
