Hideko James, 71, a checker at the Idaho Springs Safeway for many years, died Dec. 19, 2009, in Hope Mills, N.C. In failing health, she had moved there to be near family.
Hideko’s cheerful friendliness made her popular both with customers and fellow workers at Safeway. When she retired, her colleagues there threw a party for her, which was featured in a lengthy article, with photos, in the Courant.
Hideko enjoyed painting, walking around her neighborhood with her dog, Buddy, and hiking with friends.
Hideko attended First Baptist Church in Idaho Springs.
She is survived by daughters Vivien Lunsford and Kathleen Royalty and son Steven; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
