As the November election approaches, citizens are deciding for whom to vote. The Westminster City Council has had to deal with a variety of challenges over the past few years and following the election, the Council could have as many as 70% new members.
I don’t know what issues will arise. However, as important is how those issues will be discussed. I challenge all candidates for Westminster City Council to take a civility pledge, a commitment to discuss issues in a civil manner with respect for others and to recognize that diverse perspectives lead to better decisions.
Any candidate who is willing to publicly commit to a civility pledge will go a long way in earning my vote.
Finally, I encourage all councilors to constantly remind themselves that their role is to consider the greater good of the citizens of Westminster, not represent a personal belief system.
Mike Litzau,
Westminster
