Letter to the editor: Mandatory Disappointment

I’ve been turned off by the Safeway management in Idaho Springs numerous times. I want to support our local businesses, so I try to shop locally. This was the last time I’m going there. I’ll drive to the Walmart in Bergen Park from now on.
In the entryway at the Safeway there is a mandatory mask sign. Yet, when I was there Friday afternoon, half the people in the store were not wearing masks. I asked the cashier about it. She said, “That’s the manager’s job. I’m not enforcing the law.” I asked one shoper why he was not wearing a mask, and he responded, “Masks don’t work.” Now you know why COVID-19 isn’t going away. Have we turned into Texas? Judging by the plates on the highway, it’s very possible.
At Colorado ski areas you have to wear a mask, and it’s supervised. That’s outdoors in lift lines. And it’s working. Yet, indoors, at Safeway there is no mask wearing being supervised. Doesn’t make sense.
