Evergreen Kiwanis honored the educators named Teacher of the Year at local schools last month.
The Evergreen Kiwanis has been honoring teachers for many years in part because the Kiwanis motto is, “To serve children of the world,” and teachers are an integral part.
Also, along with the awards, Kiwanis gives $300 to each of the schools to be used for their libraries.
The following is a list of the honored teachers and what their principals had to say about them:
• Clear Creek Middle School chose Brett Hochmuth, who teaches life science and pre-algebra, as its Teacher of the Year.
Hochmuth also coaches football and track, sponsors the student council, and organizes the Utah rafting experience for students.
Principal Ros Marshall said: “He was selected for this award due to his dynamic teaching style that helps students to make significant progress in their skills development. He also has an extraordinary ability to motivate students and develop positive relationships with students.”
• Clear Creek High School selected Conradt Fredell, who teaches advanced placement biology, human anatomy and general biology.
He is retiring at the end of this school year.
Principal Elizabeth Gardner said: “Mr. Fredell is an educator in every sense of the word. He teaches students not only about science, but about life and the importance of education and their choices.”
• Evergreen High School honored Matt Erholtz, who teaches business, computer applications, marketing and sports marketing.
He’s also the DECA sponsor, Cougar Café sponsor and assistant baseball coach.
Principal Matt Walsh said: “Matt Erholtz is a phenomenal teacher who looks for opportunities to positively impact our students, school and community at every turn. His work toward providing students outstanding instruction, accompanied by real world relevance, positively impacts every student he comes into contact with.”
•King-Murphy Elementary School named third-grade teacher Annie Nikovics as its Teacher of the Year.
Principal Colleen Larson said: “Annie Nikovics has worked with everyone on the staff at King-Murphy in a cooperative and team spirit. In addition, she has been a strong advocate for all of her students through her dedication, perseverance, loyalty and loving attitude.”
